What is a credit card surcharge?

A credit card surcharge is a fee applied for using a credit card for payment. It covers the cost associated with processing credit card payments, including merchant and payment gateway fees.

When do I pay a credit surcharge?

The surcharge is applied to Visa and Mastercard credit cards for both online and casual drive-up parking purchases. This is clearly indicated during your online purchase journey, if applicable, or on car park entry signage.

A surcharge is also applied to monthly subscription invoices (eg monthly parking customers) who pay their account by credit card. The credit card surcharge does not apply to direct debit payments processed using your BSB and bank account details.

Does it matter which credit card I use?

Yes, the 1.00% surcharge will be applied to casual drive up and online purchases using a Visa or Mastercard.

Monthly subscription invoices will incur a 1.00% surcharge if paid using Visa, Mastercard or Amex. However, no surcharge applies to payments made via direct debit.

When will/did Secure Parking start applying the surcharge?

Monthly subscriptions: 6 March 2025 Online and casual drive up purchases: 20 March 2025.

How is the credit card surcharge applied?

Casual drive-up customers will see the surcharge fee clearly displayed on the rate display board at the car park entry and itemised on your receipt.

Online parking purchases will see the surcharge amount in the shopping cart prior to confirming the purchase. This applies to all card types including AMEX until the card type is selected at which point the surcharge will be adjusted.

Monthly subscriptions customers paying via credit card will have the surcharge added to your monthly invoice.
